Serve Others

I know of a young man who participated in helping others on two occasions. From both situations he responded that it felt good helping others. I think it kind of caught him off-guard. Upon reflection, in those moments, you are sacrificing your time, surrendering your schedule, investing your energy and utilizing your ability to do something for someone else. From a life investment accounting perspective, it may seem that the payout will fall short of the investment. There is a number of things that take place when you choose to serve; you remove some of the pressure from being the center of attention, more grace is often given to givers, appreciation rises as service continues, anger and depression are moved (at least for a short period) to the back seat, and good feelings begin to saturate you being – often moving from your hand, to your heart, to your head and finally on your face! It doesn’t have to be gigantic but is necessary to do something. How are you going to serve someone this week?
